Each year, Women Health Care Executives awards the Lynn Adamson Memorial Scholarship to a graduate-level female student dedicated to a health-related career. The award is named for a beloved past president of WHCE, who exemplified the blend of high achievement and generous spirit that is the hallmark of our organization.
The award, which is conferred solely on merit, carries a $5,000 scholarship and a one-year complimentary WHCE membership, and is presented at WHCE's Annual Woman of the Year event. Eligibility and selection criteria are specified in our application; successful applicants demonstrate outstanding leadership, scholarship, integrity, personal /professional strengths that equip them to make a significant contribution to healthcare, and preparation to meet the challenges of a changing industry.
Past winners have gone on to earn advanced degrees, join the faculties of major universities, and take up positions of importance at healthcare institutions in the Bay Area and around the country, as well as taking leadership roles in their communities.
Qualified applicants are students currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at a university in the San Francisco Bay Area, or who will be admitted to such a program for the fall term of the current year.

Remembering Lynn Adamson (1943-1998)
The WHCE annual scholarship is named for the remarkable Lynn Adamson, a distinguished healthcare professional and a longtime leader of WHCE. Lynn began her career in 1969, and was a pioneer in the area of hospital planning and marketing in several posts, including at Mills Memorial Hospital and Saint Francis Memorial Hospital. Later she moved into executive recruitment, working for Levison Associates.
Lynn was a talented and dedicated professional, a good friend, and tireless in her support of organizations she cared about. She served on the boards of several healthcare professional groups and as president of WHCE in 1993–1994, as well as a frequent volunteer on committees and special projects. In all these roles she became a mentor, teacher, counselor, and role model to other members. Another past president, Cathy Garzio, once referred a colleague in transition to Lynn, who said, I”ll be glad to talk to her; after all, we’ve all been there, haven’t we?”
All this is the more notable in light of Lynn’s medical challenges; she battled multiple sclerosis for years and had brain surgery twice, for two different aneurysms. She always forged on cheerfully until her death in 1998, after a major stroke. Through the Lynn Adamson Memorial Scholarship, we perpetuate her memory and honor her commitment to the healthcare field by rewarding the talented young women who follow in her footsteps.

Early career development is vital in this competitive age. Since 2014, WHCE has awarded a scholarship to a third-year undergraduate student dedicated to pursuing a health-related career.
This $2,500 scholarship and a one-year complimentary WHCE membership are awarded to a student who, among the year’s applicants, we judge best meets the eligibility and selection criteria. This scholarship is conferred on merit, but financial need may be considered. The winner of the Undergraduate Scholarship will be recognized at WHCE’s annual Woman of the Year event.
